Domestic Violence

We have experience of dealing with a wide variety of cases where domestic violence is a feature. Regrettably domestic violence is surprisingly widespread, and is not always overt or physical.

If you need protecting from a violent partner, then we can offer help and advice on possible court proceedings. The Family Courts can make injunction orders preventing violence or harassment, and can also order the perpetrators of violence out of the family home.

We are also experienced in supporting victims of domestic violence and have links with a number of support agencies who can help such as refuges and counseling services.

Children

Where children have witnessed or been directly subjected to domestic violence, and are then the subject of disputes over residence or contact between the parents, the courts will take allegations of domestic violence very seriously. The court may have to order a separate fact finding hearing (which is similar to a criminal trial), to determine the facts before making any final decisions about the children.
