Divorce

Divorce is never easy, and we aim to conduct each case with skill and sensitivity so as to minimise the emotional and financial cost of family breakdown. We have a wealth of experience within our team ensuring that you receive the best possible advice every step of the way.

The process of obtaining a divorce is comparatively straightforward; it is the ancillary issues, such as resolving a couple's finances which can be more complicated.

As of 6 April 2022, in order to obtain a divorce you will need to confirm to the court that your marriage has irretrievably broken down by simply confirming this in the divorce application.

The divorce application can be submitted online and it will set out your details as well as include any financial claims that the person applying for divorce (the applicant) wishes to make against their spouse (the respondent). We will take care to discuss and explain each stage with you in detail. Joint applications for divorce are possible, however we are unable to act for joint applicants in divorce proceedings.

The divorce process takes 20 weeks from issue to reach the Conditional Order stage and the Final Order can be applied for 6 weeks after the date of the Conditional Order, however obtaining the Final Order does not usually take place until the parties' finances have been resolved.

We may be able to offer a fixed fee for obtaining a divorce which can help considerably in keeping your legal costs down.
